Calhoun County Sheriff's Office Achieves Prestigious State Accreditation

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office has proudly attained accredited status through the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MLEAC), marking a significant milestone in its dedication to professional excellence.

This voluntary accreditation process involves a comprehensive evaluation of an agency's policies, procedures, operations, and services. Independent law enforcement professionals conduct this rigorous review to ensure agencies meet or exceed Michigan's professional standards.

Established by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police and the Michigan Sheriffs' Association, MLEAC aims to promote high standards in policing through structured evaluations and peer reviews. As of September 2024, out of 573 law enforcement agencies in Michigan, only 88 have achieved this esteemed accreditation.

The accreditation process included extensive internal assessments and external evaluations, demonstrating the department's commitment to continuous improvement. This achievement reflects the sheriff's office's dedication to excellence, accountability, and building trust within the community.

In related developments, Calhoun County has been actively pursuing initiatives to enhance community well-being. The county received a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to assess and revitalize brownfield sites, aiming to transform vacant or underutilized properties into developable land. This effort underscores the county's commitment to sustainable development and economic growth.

Additionally, the Calhoun Builders Connection hosted an event on August 23, 2024, at Torti Taco Bar and Grill in Battle Creek. This gathering provided support to existing and emerging contractors, facilitating networking opportunities and discussions on industry advancements.

These initiatives, alongside the sheriff's office's recent accreditation, highlight Calhoun County's ongoing efforts to foster a safe, vibrant, and thriving community.
