KCC Earns City Recognition for Campus Beauty

Kellogg Community College has received a Beautiful Battle Creek Award from the Battle Creek City Commission, recognizing the college's ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance its North Avenue campus.

The award was presented in July to Vice President for Student Affairs Terah Zaremba by Battle Creek Mayor Mark Behnke and city commissioners during a regular commission meeting. The honor comes as registration continues for fall classes beginning August 24.

About the Beautiful Battle Creek Awards

The monthly Beautiful Battle Creek Awards recognize residents and businesses that contribute to neighborhood appearance through property upkeep and beautification projects. Recipients are nominated by local Neighborhood Planning Councils and announced during the second City Commission meeting each month.

The city says the awards highlight property owners who support community goals related to neighborhood appearance and quality of life, encouraging others to invest in their properties and contribute to the overall beauty of Battle Creek.

Student Voices Shape Campus Improvements

In accepting the award, Zaremba emphasized that both employees and students take pride in the campus. She noted that several college initiatives consider beautification in planning decisions, including the Art on Campus Committee and the Infrastructure, Sustainability and Planning Council.

"One of the coolest things that make me proud is that our students weigh in, as well," Zaremba said.

She shared a recent example of student involvement: "Most recently, we had some students bring forward a request to beautify a particular part of campus that makes what they call a third space, and so we approved that, we beautified that part of campus. Having our students weigh in is really meaningful for us, and I think it demonstrates how much pride we put into our campus."

Fall Semester Approaching

The award recognition comes as Kellogg Community College prepares for the fall semester. Registration remains open for fall courses, with the first classes scheduled to begin August 24.

Information about enrollment, tuition, fees, registration policies and instructions is available at the college's website. The campus improvements recognized by the city award create an inviting environment for new and returning students alike.

A Community Investment

The Beautiful Battle Creek Award for KCC represents more than just recognition of landscaping and maintenance. It reflects the college's commitment to creating an environment where students feel proud to learn and engage with their community.

As Battle Creek continues to invest in its neighborhoods and public spaces, KCC's campus serves as an example of how educational institutions can contribute to the city's overall quality of life and aesthetic appeal.
