Adult Charged After Battle Creek School Gun Incident

The man charged after the firearm incident at Ann J. Kellogg Elementary School has been identified in local reporting as Wade Monroe Davis, the student's father.

According to WKZO's arraignment report, Davis appeared in court Tuesday, Sept. 29, on one count of being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition.

The charge is an allegation, and an arraignment is an early court step; it does not determine guilt.

The case follows the Sept. 22 incident at Ann J. Kellogg Elementary, where the City of Battle Creek said a third-grade student brought a handgun to school and it discharged in a hallway.

No students were injured, according to the city's original update, and a school staff member secured the firearm.

Police said they searched the home where the child had been staying, collected evidence and planned to submit the case to Calhoun County prosecutors for review.

This update adds the identity of the adult charged and the charge filed in connection with the incident. It is separate from the weekend roundup of other firearm cases involving juveniles.

Read the City of Battle Creek's original police update and WKZO's report on the arraignment for the source details.
