A surprising warm-up brings rain and milder air before a wintry mix returns for the weekend.

 

What a difference a week makes in Michigan! After ringing in 2026 with bitter arctic air and single-digit lows, Battle Creek is trading the heavy parkas for rain jackets this week as a significant January thaw arrives.

 

Wednesday starts things off quietly but briskly with a high near 39°F. The big shift begins

 

Thursday as winds pick up and warmer air surges north. Expect rain to develop late in the day as temperatures climb to an impressive 51°F. 

 

Friday will be the peak of the warmth, hitting a spring-like 52°F, but it will likely be a washout with heavy rain expected, especially during the morning hours.

 

The weekend brings reality back. Saturday will still see rain showers, but temperatures will start sliding back down into the low 40s.

 

By Sunday, winter reasserts itself, changing remaining moisture over to light snow as highs drop back to a more seasonal 35°F.

 

The start of next week looks quieter, remaining mostly cloudy and chilly with highs in the upper 30s.
