Battle Creek’s Bentley Dowdy Honored as Detroit Lions’ “Kid Player of the Game” |
Nine-year-old's community efforts and passion for football recognized at Ford Field |
Bentley Dowdy, a nine-year-old from Battle Creek, was celebrated as the Detroit Lions' “Kid Player of the Game” during the team's home opener on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Ford Field.
Accompanied by his mother, Brittney Dowdy, and his friend, Carson Turner, Bentley enjoyed exclusive on-field access. A highlight of the day was Bentley retrieving the kickoff tee after the opening play, a role that underscores the Lions' commitment to community and teamwork.
This honor follows Bentley's recent philanthropic efforts. From July 28 to 31, 2025, he played a pivotal role in sponsoring 32 children to attend the Detroit Lions Football Education Camp in Battle Creek. His initiative provided local youth with professional-level football training and lessons in character and discipline.
“This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Bentley,” said his mother, Brittney Dowdy. “Being recognized on such a big stage not only celebrates his love for football but also shines a light on the positive impact he’s already making in Battle Creek.”
During the game, Bentley had the opportunity to wave at Detroit legend Barry Sanders, adding to the day's memorable moments.
The Detroit Lions continue to honor young fans across Michigan, offering them unique experiences that foster a love for the game and community spirit. Bentley's recognition serves as an inspiration for other children to pursue their passions while contributing positively to their communities.
In addition to his on-field experience, Bentley received a personalized jersey from the Lions, commemorating his special day.
Attending the game was Deanna York, owner of Brew & Beats, Invigorated Touch, and Wellness Wave, who has been a supportive sponsor of Bentley's community initiatives.
Bentley's dedication to both sports and service exemplifies the values the Detroit Lions aim to promote among their youngest fans. |
