Calhoun County Sheriff's Office Leads Targeted Operation Against Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation |
Multi-Agency Effort Results in Arrests and Charges Against Two Individuals |
The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office recently spearheaded a week-long operation targeting human trafficking and child exploitation, culminating in the arrest of two adult males accused of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a minor.
This coordinated effort saw collaboration from multiple agencies, including the Albion Department of Public Safety, Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Tribal Police, Southwest Enforcement Team, Marshall Police Department, Michigan State Police, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority.
Upon conclusion of the operation, both individuals were taken into custody and formally charged with:
- Accosting a child for immoral purposes - Using a computer or the internet to communicate with another person to commit a crime
These charges underscore the severity of the alleged offenses and the commitment of law enforcement to protect vulnerable populations.
Sheriff Steve Hinkley emphasized the department's dedication to safeguarding the community's children, stating, "The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office is committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community—our children. If you come after our children, we're coming after you."
He also urged parents to remain vigilant, highlighting the potential dangers of social media. "Social media can be a dangerous place. Have conversations with your children. Monitor their activity, trust but verify, and always keep the lines of communication open. Awareness and education are critical tools in protecting our youth."
The investigation remains ongoing. Individuals with information related to this case are encouraged to contact Detective Pignataro at the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office or submit an anonymous tip through Silent Observer.
This operation reflects a broader commitment to combating human trafficking and child exploitation within Calhoun County and beyond.
Community members are reminded to report any suspicious activity to local authorities to aid in these efforts. |
