Domestic Dispute on Mosher Avenue Escalates to Gunfire

Incident Highlights Dangers Faced by Survivors During Separation

A domestic dispute on Mosher Avenue Thursday night escalated into gunfire as a woman attempted to leave her home.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the suspect was arrested.

This incident underscores the heightened risks survivors face when trying to leave abusive relationships.

Research indicates that 75% of domestic violence-related homicides occur during or shortly after separation.

Abuse is never acceptable.

If you feel unsafe, the Battle Creek Police Department can provide a peace officer to stand by while you gather your belongings, ensuring your safety without intervening unless necessary.

Survivors can also reach out to S.A.F.E. Place for shelter, counseling, and support.

They offer a 24-hour crisis hotline at (888) 664-9832 or (269) 965-SAFE (7233).

You are not alone.

Help is available.
