18-Year-Old Faces Multiple Charges Following Tragic Incident |
In a devastating turn of events, an 18-year-old driver has been formally charged in connection with a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Calhoun Community High School senior.
Gavin Christopher Scott faces serious allegations, including operating while intoxicated causing death and reckless driving causing death.
Additional charges encompass operating while intoxicated causing serious injury and reckless driving causing serious impairment of a body part.
Scott entered a not guilty plea and was released on a $5,000 cash/surety bond.
The tragic incident occurred on July 14 at Irving Park, where Scott was reportedly performing "donuts" in a parking lot.
During this reckless maneuver, he lost control of the vehicle.
Daelnn Roark, the 17-year-old victim, along with another 17-year-old girl, were hanging out of the car's windows at the time.
Both were ejected as the car rolled over.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Roark was pronounced dead, while the other passenger sustained serious injuries.
Authorities believe that alcohol played a significant role in the crash.
Scott's upcoming court dates include a probable cause hearing on August 26, followed by a preliminary examination on September 2.
