Fall Fun Takes Over Battle Creek and Calhoun County

October is hitting its stride across Battle Creek and Calhoun County, and the next two weeks bring a distinctly fall flavor to the local event calendar.

 

From Wednesday, October 7 through Tuesday, October 20, residents can choose from harvest celebrations, Halloween attractions, youth sports, theater, community events and plenty of family-friendly activities.

 

Downtown Battle Creek kicks things off with the final Battle Creek Farmers Market and a special Friday Nite Beats & Bites Harvest Festival, while families can spend the weekend at the Calhoun County Children's Health & Wellness Fair or cheer on young athletes during New Level Sports Rocket Football.

 

The following weekend gets even more autumnal, with Farmer Grey's bringing vintage dealers and handmade artisans together in Battle Creek while Marshall offers everything from Turkeyville's Haunted Adventure and Honolulu House Lantern Tours to a Halloween Cauldron Crawl and Trunk-or-Treat.

 

Meanwhile, What A Do Theatre brings Alice in Wonderland Jr. to the Binda Performing Arts Center.

 

Whether you're looking for pumpkins and fall shopping, something spooky after dark, a family outing or a night at the theater, there's plenty happening close to home as Calhoun County settles into the heart of October.

Murder Mystery Paint Night — Saturday, October 10 | 6:00–9:00 PM | The Busy Paintbrush, 142 W. Michigan Ave., Marshall.

 

Poisoned Palette combines an interactive murder mystery with painting, clues and suspects, with admission at $50 per person including light hors d'oeuvres and a pre-sketched canvas.

 

Honolulu House Lantern Tours — Saturday, October 10 | 7:00 and 8:00 PM | Honolulu House Museum, 107 N. Kalamazoo Ave., Marshall.

 

Explore the historic Honolulu House after dark with electric lights turned off and lanterns illuminating the rooms as guides share documented history rather than ghost stories. Admission is $20, with attendance limited.

 

Marshall Cauldron Crawl — Saturday, October 10 and Saturday, October 17 | Participating locations throughout Marshall.

 

Marshall's Saturday-night October pub crawl features Halloween-inspired drinks and games at participating local establishments alongside the town's display of more than 80 skeletons.

 

What A Do Theatre Presents “Alice in Wonderland Jr.” — Thursday–Sunday, October 15–18 | Binda Performing Arts Center, 450 North Ave., Battle Creek.

 

Performances are 7:00 PM Thursday and Friday and 3:00 PM Saturday and Sunday. The family-friendly production follows Alice down the rabbit hole into Wonderland, with tickets at $12 for adults and $10 for students.

 

VA Stand Down Health & Information Fair — Friday, October 16 | 9:00 AM–Noon | Full Blast Recreation Center, 35 W. Hamblin Ave., Battle Creek.

 

This free Project Connect event connects people experiencing or at risk of homelessness with housing, health care, employment, benefits, behavioral-health, transportation and other community resources.

 

Lakeview Schools Homecoming Parade — Friday, October 16 | 5:30–6:30 PM | Lakeview area, Battle Creek.

 

Celebrate homecoming as the parade travels from the 20th Street Plaza parking lot along 20th Street, West Territorial Road and South 28th Street before finishing at Lakeview Middle School.

 

The Fall Gathering at Farmer Grey's — Saturday, October 17 | 9:00 AM–3:00 PM | Farmer Grey's, 3019 Beckley Road, Battle Creek.

 

The sixth annual gathering fills the lawn of the historic schoolhouse with vintage and antique dealers, juried handmade artisans and plenty of fall atmosphere, with free admission.

 

Marshall Trunk-or-Treat — Saturday, October 17 | Noon–2:00 PM | MediLodge of Marshall, 879 E. Michigan Ave., Marshall.

 

Families are invited for Halloween treats, decorated trunks and a community afternoon with residents and staff.

 

Casper — Saturday, October 17 | 1:00 PM | Bohm Theatre, 201 S. Superior St., Albion.

 

The historic Bohm Theatre screens the family-friendly 1995 Halloween favorite Casper, with tickets just $1.

 

Honolulu House Lantern Tours — Saturday, October 17 | 7:00 and 8:00 PM | Honolulu House, Marshall.

 

The lantern-lit historical tours return for another evening, with groups limited to 25 people and admission at $20.
