MSP Offers Prescription Drug Take-Back on October 24th

Calhoun County residents have a nearby option for clearing unwanted prescription pills from their homes during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

All 31 Michigan State Police posts will accept unused and expired prescription pills from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 24th, 2026.

The local participating location is the MSP Marshall Post, which serves Calhoun County and neighboring communities.

The collection is anonymous, and police said the pills will be destroyed after they are surrendered.

The event offers a practical way to reduce the risk that unneeded medicine is misused, taken accidentally or discarded in a way that harms the environment.

Residents should check what they bring before leaving home.

MSP will accept prescription pills, but liquids, inhalers, patches and syringes will not be accepted at the event.

That restriction matters because not every medication product can be handled through the same collection and destruction process.

People who cannot attend Saturday’s event may anonymously surrender prescription drugs at any MSP post from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

The Drug Enforcement Administration also maintains a collection-site search for the national event and information about year-round disposal locations.

Before traveling, residents should use the official MSP post directory or DEA locator to confirm the most convenient location and any site-specific instructions.

Michigan State Police says safe disposal can help prevent prescription-drug misuse while keeping potentially dangerous medication out of the wrong hands.

The take-back program is intended for medications that are no longer wanted or needed, not for medical waste or an emergency involving exposure or overdose.

Anyone facing a suspected poisoning or immediate medical emergency should call 911 rather than wait for the collection event.

When is the October take-back event?

Michigan State Police posts will participate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 24th, 2026.

What items will MSP accept?

The event accepts unwanted prescription pills; liquids, inhalers, patches and syringes are excluded.

What if someone cannot attend on Saturday?

MSP posts accept prescription drugs anonymously on regular weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays, and the DEA lists other year-round collection sites.
