Neighbors Stop Convis Township Home Invasion, Sheriff Says

Neighbors intervened during an attempted home invasion in Convis Township early October 22nd, 2026, before deputies arrested a 51-year-old Bellevue man following a standoff.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called shortly before 2 a.m. to the Bellevue Trailer Park at 23915 15 Mile Road.

A caller reported that a man known to residents had broken a front window and was trying to enter a home, according to the Sheriff’s Office release.

Neighbors heard screaming, pulled the man away from the window and prevented him from getting inside.

Investigators said a window on the victim’s vehicle had also been broken and that deputies recovered a large knife they believe was brought to the residence.

The man fled to a nearby home and would not comply with commands to come outside, beginning a standoff that lasted roughly 45 minutes.

Deputies said the man later moved onto the porch but continued to disregard commands, prompting them to deploy a Taser and take him into custody.

He was evaluated and treated at a local hospital before being lodged at the Calhoun County Jail.

The Sheriff’s Office listed potential charges of home invasion, property damage and obstructing police.

Those are allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The man’s identity had not been released as of October 22nd.

The neighbors’ intervention prevented the reported break-in from progressing before deputies arrived.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lieutenant Benjamin Hess at 269-781-0880 or submit an anonymous tip through Silent Observer of Calhoun County.

The incident was also documented in regional reporting published October 22nd.

The Sheriff’s Office said deputies used a Taser after a roughly 45-minute standoff and continued noncompliance.

What charges are being considered?

The Sheriff’s Office listed home invasion, property damage and obstructing police.
