Party City Returns to Michigan with New Staples Partnership

Party City is making a comeback in Michigan, a year and a half after closing all of its standalone locations in the state. The popular party supply retailer has returned through a new partnership with Staples, with 25 store-within-a-store locations now open across Michigan.

The Battle Creek Staples location at 6128 Beckley Drive is among the stores now featuring Party City sections, giving local residents access to party supplies, balloons, and decorations once again.

The Comeback Story

Party City closed all of its stores in 2024 after filing for bankruptcy, including 21 locations in Michigan. The company, which had been in business for about 40 years, faced challenges from increased competition and changing consumer habits, particularly after the pandemic reduced in-person gatherings.

Now under new ownership by holding company Ad Populum, Party City has found a new way to reach customers through a strategic partnership with Staples that will bring the brand to more than 700 locations nationwide.

Staples President Marshall Warkentin explained that combining Party City's balloons and party supplies with Staples' print and marketing services creates "a complete solution for celebrations, from graduations to grand openings and everything in between."
