Seven Battle Creek Streets Set for Milling and Paving
Temporary traffic disruptions are expected from October 26th through mid-November, but no full road closures are planned.

Seven Battle Creek Streets Set for Milling and Paving
Battle Creek drivers should prepare for temporary traffic disruptions on seven streets as the city begins the next phase of its 2026 Local Rehabilitation Project on Monday, October 26th.
Contractor crews will mill and repave sections of West Van Buren Street, Champion Street, Calhoun Street, Wagner Drive and East Roosevelt Avenue, Minges Road South, Watkins Lane, and McCamly Street South.
The City of Battle Creek says no complete road closures are expected during this phase, but drivers may encounter short delays, equipment, workers, and temporary traffic-control notices.
Where crews will work
West Van Buren Street will be treated from Grand Avenue to North Washington Avenue.
Champion Street work will run from Kendall Street North to West Street.
Calhoun Street work will extend from West Street to North Avenue.
Wagner Drive and East Roosevelt Avenue will be addressed from Capital Avenue NE to East Emmett Street.
Minges Road South work will run from Lynwood Drive to Knapp Drive.
Crews will also work around the entire Watkins Lane loop and on McCamly Street South from Jackson Street West to West Van Buren Street.
What residents should expect
Work hours will generally be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with completion expected by mid-November before the paving season ends.
Residents and businesses should retain driveway access, according to the city.
Street parking will not be available when crews are working on a particular roadway, and contractors will distribute door hangers before work begins on each street.
The paving follows sidewalk-ramp upgrades completed from late September into early October to bring the ramps into compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
Drivers should slow down, follow posted directions, and give workers and equipment extra space while traveling through the project areas. Residents can also check the city’s News Flash page for updates.
When does the work begin and end?
Milling and paving are scheduled to start Monday, October 26th, with completion expected by mid-November.
Will any roads be completely closed?
The city says no complete closures are expected, although temporary traffic disruptions and short delays may occur.
Which streets are included?
The project covers portions of West Van Buren Street, Champion Street, Calhoun Street, Wagner Drive and East Roosevelt Avenue, Minges Road South, Watkins Lane, and McCamly Street South. |
