Battle Creek Police swiftly respond to a family-related shooting incident |
On the evening of Thursday, July 24, at approximately 9:19 p.m., the Battle Creek Police Department received reports of a shooting in the 100 block of Inn Road.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 37-year-old woman from Battle Creek suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper right arm.
Emergency medical personnel from the Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance Service provided immediate care at the scene.
The victim was then transported to a hospital in the Kalamazoo area, where she remains in stable condition.
The suspect, identified as the victim's 34-year-old brother from Springfield, was located shortly after the incident by a Michigan State Police trooper traveling westbound on I-94.
Officers from the Battle Creek Police Department, along with deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, assisted in conducting a traffic stop.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and a firearm was recovered from his vehicle.
He is currently held at the Calhoun County Jail and faces charges related to assault and weapons violations.
Investigators believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
