United Way of South Central Michigan is inviting residents, businesses and nonprofit groups to complete 1,000 Acts of Care during United Way Days, October 26–30.

The five-day campaign combines scheduled volunteer projects with simple acts people can complete on their own, giving Battle Creek residents several ways to take part.

United Way says dozens of in-person and online opportunities are planned across its six-county region, and the official United Way Days hub is the central place to browse projects, register and report independent acts.

Participants may volunteer individually or join with coworkers, friends and family, while organizations can ask about reserving a group of openings.

Battle Creek’s schedule begins Monday, October 26, with a Salvation Army lunch-service shift from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The project calls for as many as four volunteers to help serve lunch in Sally’s Kitchen, which the event listing says serves about 120 guests each day.

On Tuesday, October 27, Charitable Union needs up to 15 volunteers to sort clothing and stock items from 9 to 11 a.m.

That same day, S.A.F.E. Place offers projects from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. that may include cleaning, painting, furniture rearranging, landscaping and gardening.

The S.A.F.E. Place listing notes that participants must complete a brief background check.

On Wednesday, October 28, Isaiah 117 House is seeking up to 10 volunteers for indoor and outdoor fall cleaning, with possible power washing, from 9 a.m. to noon.

A Milestone Senior Services home-repair project is also listed for Thursday, October 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Kalamazoo or Battle Creek.

Volunteers there may help with repairs including ramp building, and the listing caps participation at six people.

Residents do not need to join a formal project for their effort to count.

United Way suggests independent actions such as stocking a Little Free Library, checking on a neighbor or cleaning a public space, then reporting the act through the campaign hub or with the hashtag #UnitedWayDays.

How can Battle Creek residents join United Way Days?

They can register for a listed in-person or virtual project, or complete and report an independent Act of Care between October 26 and 30.

Do small acts count toward the 1,000-act goal?

Yes. United Way says actions such as helping a neighbor, stocking a Little Free Library or cleaning a public space can be logged toward the regional total.

Where are the Battle Creek opportunities listed?

The United Way Days hub lists current projects, registration details, times, locations and available volunteer roles.
