Community event offers vital services to those in need |
Battle Creek, Michigan is set to host the 2025 Project Connect Health Fair and VA Stand Down on Friday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Full Blast Recreation Center, located at 35 W. Hamblin Ave.
This annual event, now in its 20th year, is a collaborative effort between the City of Battle Creek, the Calhoun County Homeless Coalition, and the Veterans Affairs Stand Down. It aims to provide essential services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or other challenges.
Attendees can expect a range of free onsite services, including:
Continental breakfast at 9 a.m.
Lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Health screenings
Food bags
Giveaways such as blankets, gloves, hats, and other material goods
Information and assistance will be available for various needs, including:
Housing, utilities, education, and employment
Legal aid and dental services
Support for domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking
Senior services, transportation, and spiritual counseling
Healthcare enrollment, behavioral health, and substance use disorder services
Veterans attending the VA Stand Down are encouraged to bring a government-issued photo ID, and if possible, their DD214, VA ID, or military ID. For assistance in obtaining a DD214, contact the Calhoun County VA at 269-969-6735.
The event will commence with an opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m., with doors opening to the public at 9 a.m.
