Calhoun County Land Bank Seeks Applicants for Board Seat |
Opportunity for Residents to Influence Local Property Revitalization Efforts |
The Calhoun County Land Bank Authority is inviting community members to apply for an open at-large seat on its Board of Directors.
This volunteer role spans a four-year term and requires attendance at bi-monthly, in-person meetings held in Marshall, each lasting approximately 1.5 hours.
Additional duties may arise as projects and initiatives develop.
Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on December 1.
Interested individuals can apply by completing the Application for Appointment available on the county's official website.
The Calhoun County Land Bank Authority focuses on repurposing underutilized properties to enhance community development.
Recently, the Land Bank broke ground on its first-ever new construction projects—two single-family homes on Greenwood Avenue in Battle Creek.
These energy-efficient homes aim to provide affordable housing for qualified buyers earning at or below 60% of the Area Median Income.
Executive Director Krista Trout-Edwards emphasized the significance of these projects, stating, "We’re not just breaking ground; we’re building opportunity."
Additionally, the Land Bank has been awarded a $1.5 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency's Brownfields Assessment Program.
This funding will support environmental assessments and planning activities across the county, focusing on properties in and around Battle Creek and Albion.
Residents passionate about community revitalization and property redevelopment are encouraged to apply for the board position to contribute to these ongoing efforts. |
