Amtrak to Fully Refund Passengers Stranded Near Battle Creek |
Over 160 travelers affected by sensor malfunction on Train 352 |
Amtrak has announced full refunds for more than 160 passengers who were stranded for approximately four hours near Battle Creek, Michigan, last week.
The incident occurred on Friday evening when Train 352, en route from Chicago to Dearborn, experienced a sensor malfunction that halted the journey in Emmett Township. The faulty sensor, known to occasionally produce false readings, prompted an unscheduled stop around 7 p.m.
Passengers remained on the stationary train until approximately midnight, when Amtrak arranged for charter buses to transport them to their destinations. Some travelers reported challenges during the delay, including limited communication and access to amenities.
In response to the incident, Amtrak has been in discussions with the Michigan Department of Transportation to address the sensor issue. The company stated that the manufacturer is providing replacement sensors as part of routine maintenance to prevent future occurrences.
Amtrak emphasized its commitment to passenger safety and satisfaction, assuring that corrective actions are underway to enhance the reliability of its services. |
