Early morning dispute escalates to deadly shooting on South 22nd Street |
In the early hours of Wednesday, July 9, a tragic incident unfolded on South 22nd Street in Battle Creek, resulting in the death of a 31-year-old man.
According to the Battle Creek Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting just after 2 a.m. in the 100 block of South 22nd Street.
Upon arrival, they discovered the victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite being transported to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, the man was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim and the suspect, a 36-year-old man known to him, were engaged in a heated argument involving a third party.
During the altercation, the suspect allegedly shot the victim.
Detectives located the suspect at a separate residence later that day.
After conducting interviews and gathering evidence, authorities took him into custody.
He is currently being held at the Calhoun County Jail on an open murder charge.
This incident marks the second homicide in Battle Creek within a 24-hour period.
On the night of July 9, a 23-year-old man was fatally shot in the 100 block of South Burdge Street.
In that case, the suspect fled the scene, and police are actively seeking information from the public to aid in their investigation.
