Battle Creek Police Resume Fingerprinting Services After Equipment Replacement

The Battle Creek Police Department has resumed fingerprinting services following the replacement of the department's LiveScan fingerprinting equipment. The service interruption, which began on May 13, 2026, has been resolved and neighbors can once again access fingerprint processing at the BCPD station.

What Happened

On May 13, the Battle Creek Police Department announced it was unable to process fingerprint requests due to an unexpected equipment failure. The department's LiveScan system, which captures digital fingerprints for background checks, employment verification, and licensing requirements, experienced technical issues that required replacement.

The BCPD worked quickly with support assistance to replace the necessary equipment, and services were restored by May 15, 2026.

Current Fingerprinting Services

The BCPD's Administrative/Records Division now provides fingerprint processing on the following schedule:

  • Days: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (excluding holidays)
  • Hours: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Location: Battle Creek Police Department, 34 N. Division St., Battle Creek, Michigan

Fee Structure

The department has established the following fees for fingerprint services:

  • Battle Creek residents: $15 per card
  • Non-residents: $25 per card

Alternative Location During Outages

When the BCPD experiences equipment issues or service interruptions, residents have an alternative option. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office also offers fingerprinting services at their Battle Creek location, providing a backup resource for those who need immediate fingerprint processing.

Why Fingerprinting Matters

Fingerprinting services are essential for many Battle Creek residents and workers. Common reasons people need fingerprinting include:

  • Employment background checks
  • Professional licensing requirements
  • Volunteer positions working with vulnerable populations
  • Adoption and foster care applications
  • Concealed pistol license applications

The quick resolution of this equipment issue demonstrates the department's commitment to maintaining essential services for the Battle Creek community.
