U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders is set to visit Kalamazoo as part of his national "Fighting Oligarchy" tour.
The event will take place at Miller Auditorium, located at 1341 Theatre Drive on the campus of Western Michigan University, on Saturday, August 23, at 7 p.m.
Doors will open at 4:30 p.m.
Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to make reservations in advance.
Joining Senator Sanders will be Abdul El-Sayed, a 2026 U.S. Senate candidate in Michigan and former gubernatorial candidate.
El-Sayed, who was endorsed by Sanders during his 2018 gubernatorial run, is expected to discuss his campaign and the importance of progressive policies in Michigan.
The evening will also feature a performance by the Lansing-based band Rodeo Boys, starting at 6 p.m.
Sanders' "Fighting Oligarchy" tour has been drawing significant crowds nationwide, with over 107,000 attendees across various states as of April 2025.
The tour focuses on addressing corporate influence in politics and promoting progressive policies.
In addition to the upcoming event, Kalamazoo has been experiencing notable developments.
The city has approved financial support for multiple affordable housing projects, including the conversion of the former Residence Inn at 1500 E. Kilgore Road into 40 affordable units.
Another project, Kalamazoo Community Courtyard, will offer 19 affordable housing units for vulnerable populations at 3405 Duke Street.
These initiatives aim to address the housing crisis and provide support for residents in need.
For those planning to attend the event, free parking is available on-site.
Attendees are advised that certain items are not permitted inside the venue, including signs, flags, weapons, hard water bottles, chairs, and large bags.
