Cereal City Concert Band Welcomes Doris Doyon as New Conductor |
UCLA-Trained Maestro to Lead Band Starting August 1 |
Doris Doyon is set to take the helm of the Cereal City Concert Band on August 1, bringing a wealth of experience and fresh energy to Battle Creek's cherished ensemble.
With over two decades in music education and conducting, Doyon's career spans leadership roles at college, high school, and middle school levels. Most recently, she directed bands at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California, where she conducted the Wind Ensemble and Chamber Ensemble, and taught Music Appreciation.
Prior to that, Doyon revitalized the instrumental music program at Norwalk High School in Los Angeles County, expanding it to include multiple concert bands, a marching band, jazz band, and orchestra. Under her guidance, the program earned a six-year designation as a Grammy Signature School Program.
An active conductor, clinician, and author, Doyon co-authored "In Pursuit of Great Conducting" with H. Robert Reynolds, released in December 2024. Her recent appearances include the College Band Directors National Association and The Midwest Clinic.
Doyon completed her Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting at UCLA in December 2022 and is pursuing a doctorate in music education at the University of Michigan, where she serves as a graduate student instructor and assistant director of the Michigan Youth Band.
The Cereal City Concert Band, celebrating over 30 years of providing exceptional music in Battle Creek, is excited to embark on this new chapter under Doyon's leadership. The community eagerly anticipates the fresh perspectives and dynamic performances she will bring to the upcoming season.
