500 employees already hired with goal of 1,700; 70% of workforce from Albion and Battle Creek areas

The Ford BlueOval Battery Park in Marshall, Michigan is entering its final stages before production begins, marking a major milestone for the region's economy and creating hundreds of jobs for local residents. The facility, which began construction in 2023, is now in pre-production trial stages and actively hiring.
BlueOval Battery LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company, now owns the 500-acre site after the Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance (MAEDA) transferred the land last week.
Hiring Progress and GoalsThe battery manufacturing facility has already made significant progress in building its workforce:
• 500 employees currently hired • 800 employees targeted by end of 2026 • 1,700 employees ultimate goal for the site • Hundreds more positions currently open
"We are on pace to have 800 employees by end of year," said Scott Davis, CEO of BlueOval Battery. "That's a key step for our ultimate number of 1,700 employees on the site."
Local Workforce FocusA significant priority for BlueOval is hiring from the local community. Currently, 70 percent of employees are from the Albion and Battle Creek areas.
"Bringing that local talent allows us to have a team that's very invested in the community," Davis explained. "It allows them to engage on a daily basis with their family members and community stakeholders."
The company is also investing in community outreach through volunteering events, including tree plantings and food pantry support, as well as direct investments in local organizations.
Training and SkillsEmployees hired at BlueOval Battery Park will receive comprehensive training in:
• Electrochemistry - Understanding battery chemistry and performance • Robotics - Operating automated manufacturing systems • Technical knowledge - Battery production processes • Hands-on skills - Manufacturing and quality control
Economic Impact on Marshall and Surrounding AreasLocal residents say the community needs BlueOval to help address economic challenges experienced in recent years.
"The food pantries are a lot busier, and there's a lot more homeless," said Penny Jacobs, a Marshall resident. "We don't want that."
The facility is expected to boost the local economy through job creation, increased housing demand, and community investment.
Housing Market ImpactMatt Davis, broker and owner of Real Estate One Rosemary Davis, noted a shift from short-term rentals to permanent housing as construction workers complete their projects and permanent employees move to the area.
While affordable housing has been a concern in Marshall, Davis said new BlueOval employees are finding favorable prices compared to metro areas.
"I think it positions us well for bringing people in who are willing to buy, because they can get a fair amount for their dollar," he said. "People have been pleased with what they've seen price-wise."
Production TimelineBlueOval Battery Park will soon begin production on batteries for an electric mid-sized Ford truck. Production is expected to begin sometime in 2026.
The facility represents Ford's major investment in electric vehicle battery manufacturing and positions Michigan as a leader in the EV supply chain.
