Free Community Event Listings Are Here in Battle Creek
Discover local events, share your own, and help build the Cereal City Buzz Local calendar

Have you ever heard about a great local event just after it happened? We want to make that a little less common around Battle Creek and Calhoun County. Cereal City Buzz Local now has a community Events Calendar where residents can discover what's coming up and organizers can share their own events. Best of all, basic event listings are free. You don't need a big advertising budget or a large organization to participate. From concerts at Kellogg Arena and major festivals to neighborhood fundraisers, library programs, craft fairs, school activities and small workshops, we want to hear about it. |

Visit the Events section to browse upcoming activities and explore the kinds of events that interest you. It's another way to find local happenings without having to catch every announcement in a Facebook feed. We're starting with events in Battle Creek, Marshall, Albion, Springfield and the surrounding communities, and we hope the calendar will keep growing as more organizers join in. |

Open an individual listing to see the event information in one place, including its date, time, venue, description and location details. When a map and event links are available, those help visitors plan their trip or learn more. Whether your event is expected to attract 20 people or 2,000, it belongs in the conversation. Who should submit an event? The best person is someone who is organizing the event or helping manage it: an owner, venue manager, event coordinator, volunteer or other responsible member of the team. We encourage each event to have one person taking charge of its listing, keeping details accurate and adding the photos, promotional graphics and description that make it inviting. Make the listing your own. Tell people what makes your event special, who it's for, what to expect and anything they should know before arriving. |

Go directly to the free event sign-up form, or visit the Events Page and select Add Your Event (under the menu on mobile). Follow the on-screen instructions. Have your event name, dates, times, location, description and a good promotional image ready.
If you're helping organize a public activity, please coordinate with the person responsible for it so the same event doesn't get submitted multiple times.
We got the calendar started with a little help from AI.
We used AI to transfer 16 upcoming events from our existing weekly Cereal City Buzz events guide into the new calendar, giving readers something useful to explore right away.
Those imported listings contain helpful basic information, but they don't yet have all the photos, graphics and personal touches that an organizer can provide.
If your event is already there, we'd love for the person in charge to take ownership of the listing and bring it to life. Check with us about the correct way to claim or manage an imported listing rather than creating a duplicate.
Eventually, we plan to reverse the process: use events submitted to the directory as a source for preparing our weekly Cereal City Buzz events article.
That future workflow could give organizers another opportunity for their events to be considered for our newsletter, although submitting a listing won't guarantee editorial inclusion.
Events and Hotspots serve different purposes.
An event is an activity happening on a particular date or over a defined period: a concert, fundraiser, festival, workshop, holiday celebration or special community gathering.
A Hotspot helps people find recurring offerings or activities, such as regular happy hours, food truck locations, farm stands and traveling bands.
For example, a restaurant's ordinary weekly happy hour belongs in the Happy Hours Hotspot, while its one-night Halloween party belongs on the Events Calendar.
Keeping those separate makes the calendar more useful and prevents it from being crowded with everyday specials. Some businesses may have good reasons to use both.
Our upcoming community app will also help residents discover local businesses and activities. We're building up the directory now, before that public launch.
Ready to explore or share an event?
Go to CerealCityBuzz.com/events to see what's happening, or submit your own event for free.
We built the calendar, but our community is what will bring it to life. Share the page with a friend, invite your favorite venue to participate and help us make local events easier for everyone to find. |
