April’s Tug-of-War: From 73°F Storms to a Sunday Snow Mix
Battle Creek stays on a weather roller coaster this week as record-threatening warmth gives way to one last arctic reality check.
The "Spring Surge" is putting up a fight, Stu, but winter isn't ready to exit the Cereal City just yet.
We are starting this week with a stretch of mild, humid air and active weather, before a cold front sends temperatures plummeting just in time for the end of the weekend.
The first half of the week is all about the warmth and the water.
Wednesday and Thursday will be humid and stormy, with highs hovering near 70°F.
Friday is looking like the warmest day of the stretch, reaching a spectacular 73°F.
However, keep the umbrella close; "April showers" will be frequent, with scattered thunderstorms likely on both Thursday and Saturday.
The real "March Madness" in April arrives Saturday night.
As a sharp cold front sweeps through Calhoun County, the rain will transition into a light snow mix. By Sunday and Monday, daytime highs will struggle to climb out of the 40s, a nearly 30-degree drop from Friday’s peak.
Overnight lows will dip back to the freezing mark (33°F), making for a very brisk start to the new week.
It’s a classic Michigan transition, so don't put those heavy coats in storage quite yet!
Cereal City Weather Q&A
Q: With 93% humidity on Saturday, should I expect heavy fog for my morning commute? A: Yes, Saturday morning is likely to be quite soupy. Between the high humidity and the approaching cold front, dense fog is a strong possibility. Give yourself extra time on the roads and keep your low beams on.
Q: Is the snow on Sunday and Monday expected to accumulate? A: Thankfully, no. Since we are hitting 73°F on Friday, the ground will be much too warm for snow to stick to the pavement. You’ll see it in the air and perhaps on the grass, but the roads should remain clear and wet.
Q: Is 73°F a record for mid-April in Battle Creek? A: It’s very close! Our average high for this time of year is usually around 57°F. Being 16 degrees above normal makes Friday a rare treat, even if it comes with a bit of rain. |
