Authorities Recover $200,000 in Stolen Vehicles and Parts |
In a significant breakthrough, the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office has dismantled a sophisticated auto theft operation, recovering stolen vehicles and parts valued at approximately $200,000.
The investigation began on August 9, 2025, when deputies in Sheridan Township noticed a suspicious vehicle. Upon questioning, they discovered it had been stolen without the owner's knowledge. This led to the recovery of another stolen vehicle from the same property.
Further inquiries took deputies to the victim's residence in Marengo Township, where evidence of a significant break-in was found. The owner reported two additional vehicles stolen earlier that week.
One of these vehicles was located at another Sheridan Township residence, while the second was found within Albion city limits. The driver of the latter was detained for questioning.
Interviews with multiple individuals revealed seven locations connected to the theft ring. Search warrants executed in Parma Township, Springport Township (Jackson County), Sheridan Township, and Marengo Township led to the recovery of stolen property.
Seven suspects have been identified, with arrest warrants being sought for charges including Breaking and Entering, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property, Operating a Chop Shop, Tampering with Vehicle Identification Numbers, and Larceny of Power (Energy Theft).
The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office received assistance from the Albion Department of Public Safety, Michigan State Police Southwest Commercial Auto Recovery (SCAR) Unit, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Springport Township Police Department, and Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Tribal Police.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Det. Pignataro at 269-781-0880 or submit tips anonymously through Silent Observer at 269-964-3888. |
