Major Infrastructure Upgrade Aims to Enhance Safety and Efficiency |
The Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport has been awarded a substantial $14.1 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to fund a significant extension of its primary runway.
This funding will facilitate a 450-foot extension of Runway 17/35, bringing its total length to 6,952 feet.
Additional improvements include extending the parallel taxiway, reconstructing the blast pad, site grading, relocating the runway lighting system, and updating navigational aids.
These enhancements are designed to bolster safety and operational efficiency at the airport.
Airport Director Craig Williams emphasized the project's importance, stating, "Receiving this grant allows for this runway extension, which will enhance runway safety and reduce delays, cancellations, and flights with weight restrictions."
Construction is slated to begin in spring 2026, with completion expected by fall.
The airport extends its gratitude to Congressman Bill Huizenga for his unwavering support of aviation infrastructure in southwest Michigan.
His advocacy has been instrumental in securing federal resources that contribute to the region's economic growth.
