Turtles and Watercolors event at W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary combines nature and creativity

Art Meets Nature in AugustaResidents can learn about Michigan native turtles and try their hand at watercolor painting during a unique workshop at the W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary.
The Turtles and Watercolors event is planned for 6-7:30 p.m. May 21 at the sanctuary, located at 12685 East C Ave. in Augusta, one mile north of M-89 and west of 40th Street.
Workshop Features Live Turtles and Guided PaintingThe workshop will begin with a presentation by Caleb Krueger, a Ph.D. candidate studying the ecology and genetics of the endangered spotted turtle. Krueger will share insights into turtle biology, conservation efforts and what it is like to work as a turtle biologist.
Participants will then observe live turtles and create their own watercolor paintings, guided by artist-in-residence Erica Bradshaw. Bradshaw, who holds a bachelor degree in illustration from Kendall College of Art and Design, focuses on art that educates and inspires conversation.
About the W.K. Kellogg Bird SanctuaryThe W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is a 180-acre wildlife sanctuary located in Augusta, Michigan. Founded in 1927 by cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg, the sanctuary is part of Michigan State University Kellogg Biological Station and serves as a living laboratory for conservation research and education.
The sanctuary is home to a variety of native wildlife and offers educational programs for visitors of all ages throughout the year.
Registration and DetailsThe workshop will take place both indoors and outdoors, so attendees are encouraged to dress comfortably. All painting materials will be provided.
