Every year, our annual Fair Food Night is a highlight of the summerânot because weâre scouting out a new restaurant, but because the fairgrounds become one giant, glorious buffet.
From the moment you walk in, the air is thick with the mouthwatering scents of smoky barbecue, sizzling sausage, and sweet fried treats.
This yearâs lineup didnât disappoint. Outlaw Roasted Corn had their signature buttery, smoky cobs, still one of the best ways to kick off a night of fair feasting.
The Mexican CafĂŠ was bustling, serving up tacos and burritos with a burst of fresh flavors. Of course, no fair would be complete without the classics: Polish dogs, corn dogs, Italian sausage, burgers, wraps, and subs, each with their loyal fans lining up.
I made my way to Kateâs Pizza stand, and it was well worth the stop. A perfectly crisp crust, melty cheese, and just the right balance of sauce and toppingsâKateâs never lets me down.
But a special shout-out goes to the Grange, a true fair institution. Theyâve been serving hungry visitors here for over 50 years, and their legendary sloppy joe is still unbeatable.
For my family, itâs tradition: lunch at the Grange on judging day is a must. Thereâs something about that sweet and tangy sauce paired with their perfectly seasoned meat that just says âfairâ to me.
Of course, we couldnât end the night without another tradition, grabbing a funnel cake from the vendor right by the exit.
Light, crispy, and dusted with a generous sprinkle of cinnamon sugar, itâs the perfect sweet send-off.
Tonightâs was as delicious as ever, and it somehow makes the walk back to the car feel just a little more magical.
The fair runs through the 16th, so thereâs still time to head out, explore, and eat your way through the midway.
Just one friendly tip: ride the rides before you indulgeâyour stomach will thank you.
Whether youâre in it for the savory or the sweet, the fair is proof that sometimes the best ârestaurantâ doesnât have four walls at all. |
