Battle Creek officials have revised their fire station modernization plans, choosing to build a new Station 3 near the Post Addition neighborhood.

This shift replaces the previous plan that proposed consolidating Station 1 with the aging, 123-year-old Station 3 into one facility.

Community feedback played a key role, as leaders realized the value of keeping a fire station presence in Post Addition.

The revised plan now includes constructing a new Station 3, reducing the renovation scope for Station 2, and converting Station 1 for storage and administrative use.

Technical Services Battalion Chief Cody Titus highlighted how this approach improves staffing and storage solutions for the department.

The updated project is expected to exceed the original $25 million budget by roughly $8 million, prompting the City Commission to consider additional funding or further cuts at an August 5 meeting.

Residents are invited to participate in upcoming public meetings about these critical upgrades.

Miller’s Time Out delivers a relaxed, family-run atmosphere perfect for sports fans.

TVs surround the dining room, and playful, sports-themed menu sections add a local touch.

Megan, our server, stood out for her warm attitude and spot-on recommendations, making us feel right at home.

We started with crisp, topping-loaded Potato Skins, followed by a Build Your Own Burger and the Kansas City Burger — both packed with flavor, especially the caramelized onions and BBQ sauce.

The real star, though, was Megan’s “pro tip”: a side of Beer Cheese for our waffle fries.

It was so addictive, we put it on everything — fries, onion rings, even the burgers.

If you want a great place for game day, ask for Megan and don’t miss the beer cheese.

Michigan’s minimum wage will rise by 10% on January 1, 2026, jumping from $12.48 to $13.73 per hour as part of the state’s plan to support workers through the Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act.

Tipped employees will see their base pay rise to $5.49 per hour, with employers ensuring total earnings match the standard minimum wage.

Minors aged 16 and 17 will receive $11.67 hourly, while the training wage for new workers under 20 remains at $4.25.

These increases are designed to move Michigan toward a $15 minimum wage by 2027, with annual inflation adjustments to follow.

The changes result from bipartisan compromise in Lansing, addressing concerns about impacts on tipped workers, restaurants, and local businesses.

This legislation underscores Michigan’s commitment to fair wages and stable income for employees statewide.

Michigan farmers are expressing doubt about President Trump’s $12 billion aid package, concerned it won’t do enough to address the financial challenges they face from rising costs and ongoing trade disputes.

Paul Schroeder, a veteran soybean grower, questioned whether the support would truly reach farms instead of benefiting suppliers, admitting the funds “might help pay some bills” but won’t offer lasting support.

Bob Thompson of the Michigan Farmers Union called the plan a quick fix, emphasizing farmers prefer fair markets over government payments.

With agriculture contributing over $104 billion yearly, Michigan's industry is under strain, facing an estimated $160 million loss in exports due to recent trade policies.

Department of Agriculture director Tim Boring noted tariffs are just part of a larger set of problems plaguing farmers today.

Many believe true recovery requires lasting solutions, not just temporary aid.
