Japanese Auto Supplier Astemo Americas to Establish $95M Regional Headquarters in Wixom, Creating 200 Jobs

Governor Whitmer Announces Major Investment Strengthening Michigan's Automotive Industry

Exclusive

Astemo Americas, a subsidiary of Tokyo-based automotive supplier Astemo Ltd., has unveiled plans to invest $95 million in a new regional headquarters in Wixom, Michigan.

This significant development is set to create 200 new jobs, including over 150 engineering positions, and retain an additional 175 roles within the state.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer, currently on a trade mission in Asia, highlighted the importance of this investment, stating, "Today’s investment is further proof that Michigan is open for business and on the move."

She emphasized her commitment to strengthening Michigan's automotive ecosystem and bringing jobs and investments back to the state.

The new facility will be situated on a 26-acre campus along I-96 in Wixom, featuring a testing facility with test tracks and 185,000 square feet of office and lab space dedicated to engineering, software development, marketing, customer service, and administration.

Construction is slated to begin in the spring of 2026, with completion expected by the fall of 2027.

Tim Clark, CEO and President of Astemo Americas, expressed enthusiasm about the project, noting that the new facilities will provide the necessary space to develop and showcase cutting-edge technology, attract additional engineering talent, and strengthen collaboration with customers.

Astemo's decision to choose Michigan over competing sites in Ohio underscores the state's appeal as a hub for the automotive industry.

Kohei Takeuchi, President & CEO of Astemo Ltd., remarked that this investment cements the company's presence in Michigan and enhances the state's standing as the best-in-nation for the automotive industry.

Local officials have also welcomed the investment.

David Coulter, Oakland County Executive, highlighted the success of state and local leaders collaborating to attract and retain businesses like Astemo Americas.

Steven Brown, City Manager of Wixom, expressed excitement about the city's long history as the home for world-leading automotive suppliers and looks forward to working with Astemo to build their state-of-the-art facility.

Astemo, headquartered in Tokyo, is a global mega-supplier specializing in advanced mobility solutions such as electric powertrains, chassis systems, and autonomous driving technologies.

The company currently employs over 15,000 individuals in North America and 80,000 globally.

In June 2025, Astemo Americas announced plans to expand beyond its existing technical center and headquarters in Farmington Hills, Michigan, due to growth.

The new Wixom headquarters aligns with the company's strategy to strengthen its position in electrification and mobility intelligence, particularly in the era of Software Defined Vehicles (SDV).

Astemo Americas is committed to providing opportunities for training and upskilling through a tuition reimbursement program, further investing in the local workforce.

This investment marks the second time Governor Whitmer has led an investment mission in Japan, with her first occurring in September 2023.

These missions aim to foster international partnerships and attract foreign investment to Michigan, reinforcing the state's position as a leader in the automotive industry.
