Police Discover Improvised Explosive Devices in Late-Night Incident |
Late Friday night, the Battle Creek Police Department responded to reports of an explosion on Ridge Street, located on the city's southwest side.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that an improvised explosive device (IED) had been placed beneath a recreational vehicle (RV) parked along the street.
Additionally, a second device, described as a small pipe bomb, was found nearby but had failed to detonate.
The BCPD Bomb Unit promptly secured the unexploded device and transported it to a safe location for disposal.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
Authorities believe this was a targeted attack and are actively investigating the matter.
They urge anyone with information to contact the Battle Creek Police Department at 269-781-0911 or provide anonymous tips to Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
In recent years, Battle Creek has experienced other explosive-related incidents.
In July 2022, a tragic accident occurred during the Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival, where a jet-powered truck exploded, resulting in the death of the driver.
Additionally, in January 2025, a homeowner discovered a container containing dynamite while cleaning out a basement on Gorsline Road.
The Battle Creek Police Department bomb squad responded and safely removed the explosives.
These incidents underscore the importance of community vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activities to ensure public safety.
