Battle Creek Teens Race Against Time: Will You Join the Police Explorer Challenge?

Young people interested in careers in law enforcement and criminal justice have until Sept. 16 to apply for the Battle Creek Police Explorer Program.

The program is open to people ages 14 to 21 and offers hands-on training, educational activities and opportunities to work with Battle Creek police officers, according to a community announcement. Participants are introduced to public safety careers while developing leadership, communication and teamwork skills.

Program Activities

Explorers meet twice each month and also participate in:

• Community service projects

• Public events

• Regional training opportunities

• Competitive Explorer programs

The department said the program is designed to provide exposure to a variety of law enforcement responsibilities and career paths.

Participants may receive training in several areas of policing and public safety, including:

• Patrol procedures

• Criminal investigations

• Emergency response

• Crime scene processing

• Traffic stops

• Report writing

The activities are intended to give participants practical experience while learning about law enforcement operations.
