A 30-Degree Swing: Tracking Battle Creek’s Weekend Surge

After mid-week snow flurries, Saturday offers a stunning 68-degree preview of spring.

March’s Wild Ride: From Mid-Week Snow to a 68°F Weekend

Battle Creek faces a roller coaster of conditions as late-winter snow showers give way to a significant Saturday surge.

Buckle up, Battle Creek—the next seven days are the definition of "March Madness."

We’re starting this stretch with a final frosty reminder of winter before a major warm-up takes hold just in time for the weekend.

Wednesday begins with lingering snow showers and a high of only 36°F, but the atmosphere is preparing for a big shift.

By Thursday, we trade the snow for a rain-snow mix as temperatures climb into the mid-40s.

The "thaw" truly accelerates on Friday with light rain and a high of 50°F, setting the stage for the highlight of the week:

Saturday. Expect a beautiful, partly sunny day with a high of 68°F, a nearly 30-degree jump from where we start the week.

The warmth is brief, however. By Sunday, light rain returns and temperatures settle back into the 40s.

Early next week looks quiet and much cooler, with sunny skies and highs retreating into the upper 30s.

It’s a week to keep both your heavy parka and your lighter jacket by the door!

Cereal City Weather Q&A

Q: With Saturday hitting 68°F, should I be worried about my basement flooding from melting snow?

A: With the rapid jump from 36°F to 68°F, combined with the rain on Friday and Sunday, we will see significant runoff. Ensure your sump pump is tested and your downspouts are clear of winter debris to handle the sudden moisture.

Q: Is the snow on Wednesday and Thursday expected to accumulate?

A: Accumulation should be minimal on paved surfaces because the ground is starting to warm, but we could see a slushy coating on the grass and elevated surfaces. The bigger concern will be the rain-snow mix on Thursday creating slick morning commutes.

Q: Is 68°F a record for March 21st in Battle Creek?

A: It’s certainly a contender! While we have hit the 70s in late March before, 68°F is nearly 25 degrees above our typical average for this date. It’s a rare treat for Cereal City residents after a long winter.
