Comcast Xfinity Customers May Be Eligible for Settlement Payments

Comcast has agreed to pay $117.5 million to settle a class-action lawsuit stemming from a cybersecurity breach that exposed the personal information of millions of Xfinity customers in October 2023. If you received a breach notification in December 2023, you may be eligible for compensation.

What Information Was Exposed?

According to Comcast's customer notice, the data breach included:

• Usernames and passwords

• Contact information

• Dates of birth

• Last four digits of Social Security numbers

The lawsuit alleges that Comcast "failed to properly protect personal information" and had "inadequate data security." While Comcast has denied any wrongdoing, the company has agreed to the settlement to resolve the claims.

Who Is Eligible?

You may be eligible for a settlement payment if:

• Your personal information was accessed during the October 2023 data breach

• You received a breach notification from Comcast in December 2023

• You are a current or former Xfinity customer

Important: Not every Comcast customer is automatically eligible. Only those who received the December 2023 notification are part of the settlement class.

How Much Can You Receive?

Eligible consumers have two options for compensation:

Option 1: Documented Losses

Submit a claim for reimbursement of documented out-of-pocket expenses or lost time, with a maximum payment of up to $10,000. This amount may be adjusted based on the total number of claims filed.

Option 2: Alternative Cash Payment

Choose a flat $50 payment without needing to document losses. This amount is also subject to change depending on the total number of claimants.

Important Deadlines

Claim Deadline: August 14, 2026

Final Approval Hearing: July 7, 2026

Expected Payment Date: After the final approval hearing

How to File a Claim

To submit a claim, visit the official settlement website at comcastbreachsettlement.com. The site provides detailed instructions on how to file for either documented losses or the alternative cash payment.

Make sure to file before the August 14 deadline to ensure your claim is considered.

What Should You Do Now?

If you were affected by the breach:

1. Check your email and mail for the December 2023 breach notification

2. Gather any documentation of out-of-pocket expenses or time lost

3. Visit the settlement website to file your claim

4. Consider changing passwords and monitoring your accounts for unusual activity
