PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP
A 35-year-old Kalamazoo man died Sunday morning following a physical altercation in the 21000 block of North Avenue, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 11:37 a.m. on July 6 after receiving a report of shots fired. Family members, including children and a bedridden individual, had locked themselves in a bedroom for safety during the incident.
The man was found in the driveway and placed in a patrol car while deputies secured the scene. He soon suffered a medical emergency and, despite aid from first responders, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the man had been involved in a fight and that a firearm was discharged at him during the altercation. A 45-year-old Battle Creek man was taken into custody, though no one was struck by the gunfire.
The cause of death is still unknown and will be determined by the medical examiner. Investigators are working to determine whether the physical altercation played a role in the death.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Jon Pignataro at 269-781-0880 or report anonymously through Silent Observer at 269-964-3888. |
