Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle in Battle Creek Hit-and-Run

29-Year-Old Suspect in Custody Following Fatal Incident at Renton and Watkins Roads

A tragic incident unfolded early Sunday morning in Battle Creek, resulting in the death of a 36-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Renton and Watkins roads.

At approximately 2 a.m. on October 12, officers from the Battle Creek Police Department responded to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, they discovered an unoccupied vehicle that had collided with the victim.

Despite prompt medical assistance from LifeCare Ambulance and the Battle Creek Fire Department, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Battle Creek Police Department's Road Patrol and Detective Bureau initiated an investigation into the hit-and-run.

Later that afternoon, authorities located and arrested a 29-year-old man believed to be the driver involved in the incident.

He is currently held at the Calhoun County Jail, facing charges of hit-and-run causing death, and is awaiting arraignment.

This tragic event underscores a concerning pattern of pedestrian fatalities in the Battle Creek area.

In May 2025, a 70-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in the Urbandale neighborhood.

Similarly, in May 2024, a 50-year-old man lost his life after being hit by a vehicle on East Michigan Avenue.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the recent incident to contact the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority at 269-781-0911 or call Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.

Further details have not been released as the investigation continues.
