This week, David J. Schwartz challenges us to stop running on autopilot.
Chapters 5 and 6 are about breaking out of the "average" mindset by upgrading how we solve problems and how we view ourselves.
Chapter 5: How to Think and Dream Creatively Schwartz dispels a major myth here: Creative thinking isnât just for artists, writers, or geniuses. Creative thinking is simply finding new, improved ways to do anything.
The enemy of creativity is "traditional thinking"âthe mindset that says, "Itâs always been done this way."
To break free, you must first believe it can be done.
When you believe something is impossible, your mind shuts down. When you believe it is possible, your mind goes to work finding the way.
Try this daily habit: Every day, ask yourself, "How can I do better?" There is no limit to self-improvement.
When you ask how, your creative power switches on.
Chapter 6: You Are What You Think You Are This chapter hits home on self-respect.
The rule is simple: You receive the treatment you think you deserve. If you think you are unimportant, others will treat you that way. If you genuinely believe you are important, others will see it too.
Schwartz emphasizes that your appearance talks to you. When you dress sloppily, you think sloppily. When you look the part, you feel the part.
Your Challenge for the Week Upgrade your self-image. For the next seven days, pay extra attention to your appearance and your posture.
Dress a little sharper than usual and walk a little faster.
Notice how it changes the way you feel and how people respond to you.
