Stephen Colbert Auctions Signed Monroe Show Memorabilia for Local Media

Stephen Colbert is giving fans a chance to own a piece of television history while supporting a Michigan community institution. The former The Late Show host is auctioning off signed memorabilia from his surprise appearances on Monroe Community Media's public access program, "Only in Monroe."

The auction, hosted on eBay at colbertinmonroe.com, runs through June 1 and features items from both of Colbert's guest-hosting stints on the local cable show.

What's Up for Auction

Collectors and comedy fans can bid on several unique items signed by Colbert himself:

  • Signed 2015 script from his first "Only in Monroe" appearance with handwritten notes on the back
  • Signed 2026 script from his May 22 return to the show
  • Two broken set pieces from the productions
  • Monroe Community Media coffee mug

The 2015 script alone had attracted 55 bids by mid-afternoon on May 28, demonstrating strong interest in these one-of-a-kind collectibles.

Colbert's Michigan Connection

Colbert first shocked viewers in July 2015 when he appeared on the small-town public access show, then did it again on May 22, 2026 - the night after his final Late Show broadcast on CBS. The timing made headlines nationwide as Colbert traded the bright lights of network television for the humble studio of Monroe Community Media.

"Bid on these great items and hopefully keep Monroe Community Media going for me to show up again in 11 years," Colbert said in a video announcement posted to the organization's Facebook page.

Supporting Local Media

All proceeds from the auction benefit Monroe Community Media, the nonprofit organization that operates public access television for Monroe residents. The organization provides community members with access to television production equipment, training, and airtime to create local programming.

Public access stations like MCM serve as vital community hubs, offering residents a platform to share local news, events, and creative projects that might not find space on commercial broadcasts.
