Wrong-Way Driver Experiencing Medical Emergency Stopped on I-69
Calhoun County deputies safely stopped a 76-year-old driver experiencing a medical emergency while traveling the wrong way on I-69.

In the early hours of Wednesday, November 12, a 76-year-old driver was safely stopped by Calhoun County Sheriff's deputies while traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 69.
At approximately 2:00 a.m., multiple reports alerted authorities to a vehicle moving against traffic near the I-94 interchange.
Deputies swiftly located the vehicle near mile marker 40 and attempted to initiate a stop.
After several unsuccessful attempts, stop sticks were deployed three times, successfully deflating all four tires.
With the tires deflated, the vehicle's speed reduced to approximately 15 miles per hour.
Deputies then safely maneuvered in front of the vehicle and brought it to a stop near mile marker 53 in Eaton County.
Upon approaching the driver, deputies discovered that the individual was experiencing a medical emergency and had become disoriented.
The driver was immediately transported to Sparrow Hospital for medical treatment.
The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office received assistance from the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority, the Michigan State Police, and the Charlotte Police Department during the incident.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with information to contact Lieutenant Benjamin Hess at 269-781-0880 or provide an anonymous tip through Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
This incident underscores the importance of prompt reporting by motorists and the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies in ensuring public safety on our highways.
Drivers are reminded to stay vigilant and report any unusual or dangerous behavior on the roads to authorities immediately. |
