Medicine was a calling for Dr Richens, as it was for many others in his family. Because of his family ties to medicine, he was able to draw from their experiences which led to his decision to pursue his medical degree. Dr Richens chose sleep medicine when he witnessed so many of his patients’ lives improve when they were better rested. Though he provides care for a wide range of sleep needs, he has a special interest in sleep-disordered breathing. Dr Richens says that sleep is essential to all health, which is why he is passionate about helping his patients receive better rest and enjoys watching them return to their former selves. Dr Richens enjoys spending time outside with his family as much as possible.

Pulmonary and critical care medicine is a broad field that fit perfectly into Dr Smith’s interests. He enjoys the fast paced and high stakes style of critical care medicine, but also loves the challenge of providing detailed and nuanced care in pulmonary medicine. He tries to use his skills to help people feel better—these fields allow him to do just that. Dr Smith feels fortunate to work in fields that allow him to make a major difference in people’s lives over the course of just one day; a field where can see a person that is short of breath in the morning breathing easier by the afternoon. Dr Smith says that his parents have been the biggest influence in his life.

Dr Paloian strives to be a compassionate and comforting physician for patients and their families during difficult times. Dr Paloian enjoys the extensive variety found in internal medicine and always works through challenging cases to provide the best care. He credits his wife as his biggest influence and for always pushing him to be the best version of himself. In his free time, Dr Paloian volunteers supporting veterans and military service members and their families. He also enjoys hiking, visiting national parks, golfing and fishing. I am always focused and driven to work with our entire healthcare team to provide the best possible care for our patients.

Dr Sophia Kolyvas feels being a physician is a calling and feels it is a blessing to be able to change lives every day. Dr Kolyvas looks forward to coming to work each day knowing that it will be entirely different from the day before. She credits her family for the love and support they have given her, always pushing her to pursue her passions. In her free time, Dr Kolyvas enjoys walking her dog and considers herself an avid puzzle maker. She always has the game show network on at home and will never pass up an opportunity to play a board game with friends. Being a physician is not just a career, but a calling.
