Amazon Pallets to Pies: What’s New at Bedford’s Saturday Market

This week, we visited the Bedford Township Farmers Market, and it’s quickly becoming one of Battle Creek’s best local hangouts! Open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through September, it’s located at 2380 W. Michigan Ave. and features 25 to 30 local vendors selling everything from fresh baked goods and plants to hot food and handmade crafts.

One especially unique vendor we met was Great Lakes Overstock, run by Kim, Garrison, and Rayann Osborn. Their business buys Amazon return pallets and turns them into mystery boxes packed with surprise items—some with real value! These boxes make for fun gifts, unforgettable white elephant party contributions, or even unboxing videos if you're into that kind of thing.

Whether you're in the mood for a fresh cinnamon roll, a new houseplant, or a mystery deal, this market has something for everyone. Find them on Facebook under Bedford Township Farmers Market and Crafts, or reach out to Judy or Peter VanGoethem at 269-964-8083 for more info.

Don’t miss your chance to explore—it’s the kind of market that makes Saturdays better.

The Smarter Way to Build Habits

Make It Satisfying—and Keep the Streak Alive

This week, we explore the final rule in James Clear’s Four Laws of Behavior Change: Make It Satisfying, along with two powerful strategies to stay consistent over time.

Chapter 7: The Fourth Law – Make It Satisfying
We tend to repeat behaviors that feel good. That’s why making your habits immediately satisfying is key. While the long-term rewards of good habits are delayed, Clear encourages us to create small wins in the moment—like checking off a habit tracker or giving yourself a high-five. The more satisfying the habit, the more likely it is to stick.

Chapter 8: The Role of Tracking
Want to build momentum? Track your habits. Whether you use a calendar, app, or notebook, simply marking your progress helps reinforce identity and build confidence. Clear says, “Don’t break the chain.” Missing one day is human—missing twice is a new pattern.

Chapter 9: The Truth About Motivation
It’s not about willpower—it’s about environment. Set up your space so the right choices are the easiest ones. When your environment supports your goals, success becomes automatic.
