Bikers for Rescues Bike Night Kicks Off with Local Energy and Community Love |
There’s always something buzzing at Battle Creek Harley-Davidson—but this week, it’s more than just the sound of engines.
I had the pleasure of sitting down with two incredibly upbeat and passionate team members, John Carroll and Myron Hargrove, ahead of this week’s Bikers for Rescues Bike Night.
And let me tell you—these guys aren’t just selling bikes, they’re revving up our whole community.
From the moment you step into the dealership, John and Myron agree—it’s always exciting and fun.
That energy was unmistakable as they shared their excitement for this event, which benefits the Humane Society of South Central Michigan.
But it doesn’t stop there—they told me how Battle Creek Harley-Davidson regularly supports other important local causes too, including veterans’ organizations and cancer awareness efforts.
Myron, sporting a smile that could light up the whole showroom, emphasized that everyone is welcome—whether you ride or not.
There will be live music from The Slytones, mouthwatering bites from Road Trip Kitchen, cold drinks, and of course, a whole lot of chrome and character.
It's a celebration with purpose—and a great excuse to connect with folks doing good in Battle Creek.
So whether you're a die-hard rider or just looking for something fun to do midweek, this is your invitation to swing by and be part of the action.
Bike Night starts Tuesday, June 24 and runs through Friday, June 27, from 5 PM to 8 PM nightly.

Not only will you avoid the crowds, but you may also get the chance to see the animals more up close and personal with fewer people around. |

Serious Flavor, Hidden Gem: A First Bite at Serious Dogs & Brews |
Battle Creek Buzz | Local Eats Feature |
As part of my mission to explore more of Battle Creek’s culinary scene, I recently stopped in at a spot I’ve heard mentioned more than once:
Serious Dogs & Brews Sports Bar and Grill (55 South 20th Street). Despite having lived in the area for years, this was my first visit—and I’m glad I finally made it!
My wife and I dropped by on a Friday evening around 6:30 PM, looking for something casual but satisfying. At first, we weren’t entirely sure they were open—their entrance is partially tucked behind the patio fence, and it’s easy to miss from the road.
But once we spotted the glowing "Open" sign, we stepped inside and were warmly welcomed.
The atmosphere is laid-back and inviting, with pool tables, spacious seating, and even a private back room that looks perfect for business meetings or private gatherings.
They also host live bands, karaoke nights, and yes—even a little dancing from what I saw on their site. I can definitely see this place getting lively later in the evening.
But here's the thing: this place is a hidden gem for families looking for a great dinner option before the bar crowd rolls in.
The menu is loaded with creative smash burgers, gourmet hotdogs, hearty appetizers, and generous portions.
My wife ordered a wrap that she absolutely loved—so big she brought half of it home.
I went for the Big Tom Dog, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Topped with house chili, jalapeños, and sour cream, this thing was piled high but held together perfectly thanks to their Texas toast-style bun. Delicious and definitely filling.
At the time we visited, the crowd was light—just a couple folks at the bar. That surprised me, considering how family-friendly the menu and vibe were at that hour. It made me wonder if maybe people just don’t realize what a great dinner spot this could be before the nightlife kicks in.
So here’s my friendly tip for fellow Battle Creekers: don’t let the hidden entrance fool you—there’s also plenty of parking and a back entrance that’s easier to spot. And if you're looking for a great dinner out with the family, Serious Dogs & Brews deserves to be on your radar.
This was our first visit, but it won’t be our last. Next time, I might even stick around to catch the band. |

Business Shout-Out: Muffler Man Delivers Fast, Affordable, and Trusted Auto Repair |
This week, my wife’s car needed some muffler work, and like many folks do these days, we turned to the internet to figure out where to go. Muffler Man popped up with a solid reputation—and now I understand why. From the moment we brought the car in, the team was professional, efficient, and honest. Within 48 hours, the issue was diagnosed and fixed—faster than I expected and for a lot less than I thought it would cost. That kind of turnaround and pricing is hard to beat. When we walked into the shop, the front counter was literally covered with sets of car keys. That’s always a good sign—it means a lot of people in the community trust them with their vehicles. And sure enough, when we were picking up our car, we bumped into a family friend who was just dropping theirs off. They mentioned they've been bringing their vehicles to Muffler Man for years. That kind of loyalty doesn’t happen by accident. While we initially thought they just handled mufflers, we learned they actually do a full range of auto repair work. So whether it's exhaust issues, brakes, suspension, or more—Muffler Man has you covered. If you're looking for a trustworthy, fast, and fair auto repair shop, we highly recommend giving Muffler Man a try. They’ve earned our trust—and a spot on our go-to list for car care. |
Business Shout-Out: Belle Tire—Still My Go-To After 20+ Years |
This week, my own car started giving me some serious front-end shaking—and as I’ve done for over 20 years, I took it straight to Belle Tire.
They've always been my trusted spot for anything tire or suspension related, and once again, they proved exactly why.
After a quick inspection, they let me know I needed two new tires (wires were starting to show—yikes), along with a bit of front-end work and an alignment. They got it all taken care of quickly, and just like that, my car is running smooth again.
What I’ve always appreciated about Belle Tire is their honesty. Not only did they fix what was urgent, but they also clearly explained a couple of things to keep an eye on—important, but not immediate. No pressure, just good solid advice.
Best of all? The total was less than I expected. Fair pricing, fast service, and people I trust—that’s why Belle Tire continues to earn my business, year after year.
If you're looking for honest, experienced help with your tires or suspension, I can't recommend Belle Tire enough. |

Interesting Facts |
Battle Creek, Michigan, and Calhoun County are home to the world's longest breakfast table. Every year, the city hosts the Cereal Festival, where a 600-foot long table is set up on the streets of downtown Battle Creek, showcasing various breakfast cereals produced in the city, which is known as the "Cereal Capital of the World." Another lesser-known fact is that Battle Creek is the birthplace of the famous breakfast cereal, Corn Flakes. In the late 19th century, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and his brother Will Keith Kellogg accidentally discovered the process of making flaked cereal while experimenting with wheat. This invention revolutionized the breakfast industry and led to the creation of the Kellogg Company, one of the largest cereal manufacturers in the world. Moreover, Calhoun County is home to the largest National Guard training facility in the United States, Fort Custer Training Center. Established in 1917, this military base covers over 7,000 acres and is used for training reserve and active-duty military personnel from various branches of the armed forces. Lastly, Battle Creek is also known for its rich history of the Underground Railroad, a secret network that helped enslaved African Americans escape to freedom in the North. The city was a prominent stop along the Underground Railroad, with several safe houses and abolitionist activists aiding fugitive slaves on their journey to Canada. This hidden history highlights Battle Creek's role in the fight against slavery and its commitment to justice and equality. |

💡 Answer to Trivia Question: General George Armstrong Custer fought alongside Union forces at the Battle of Nashville during the American Civil War. This lesser-known historical event took place on December 15-16, 1864, in Nashville, Tennessee, where Union forces, including Custer's cavalry division, under the command of Major General George H. Thomas, decisively defeated Confederate forces led by General John Bell Hood. The battle marked a significant victory for the Union, effectively ending Hood's Tennessee campaign and contributing to the overall collapse of the Confederate war effort in the western theater. Custer's participation in the Battle of Nashville demonstrates his military leadership and tactical abilities during the civil war, before his more infamous role in the Battle of the Little Bighorn. |
