September is arriving with plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy our corner of Calhoun County. Over the next two weeks, neighbors can shop for local produce, hear live music, cheer on college athletes, explore historic homes and join community celebrations.

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Festival Market Square, 25 McCamly Street South, Battle Creek. Browse fresh produce, locally made foods and artisan goods from area vendors.

Live Music Wednesdays in Downtown Battle Creek
6 to 8 p.m. at Wave Square, at McCamly Street and West Michigan Avenue. Bring a chair and enjoy a free evening performance downtown.

Wednesday Night Karaoke
8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at The Music Factory, 191 Angell Street, Battle Creek. The weekly karaoke night includes drink specials and is free for guests 21 and older, with a $5 cover for those under 21.

Family Overnight, Life on the Wild Side
Binder Park Zoo, 7400 Division Drive, Battle Creek. Families can register for an overnight zoo adventure with evening activities and a stay near the animals. Registration details and arrival times are available from the zoo.

Trivia Night at Stirling
6:30 to 8 p.m. at Stirling Books & Brew, 119 North Superior Street, Albion. Come with a team or join one on arrival, with pizza available by the slice.

Albion College Football vs. Illinois Wesleyan
Noon to 3 p.m. at Schmidt-Frazier Football Field in Albion. The Britons open the home schedule with an afternoon matchup. Albion volleyball also hosts matches at noon and 4:30 p.m. in Kresge Gymnasium.

Swingin' at the Shell
6 p.m. at the Victory Park bandshell in Albion. Settle in for free Sunday evening music in the park, weather permitting.

MDA Fill the Boot
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Battle Creek. Local firefighters will collect donations supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The fundraiser continues at the same time September 9 and 10.

Albion Volleyball vs. Ohio Northern University
7 to 9 p.m. at Kresge Gymnasium in Albion.

Battle Creek Farmers Market
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Festival Market Square.

Year End VA Paddle Celebration
1 to 3:30 p.m. at Willard Beach Park. The gathering provides Battle Creek VA Medical Center veterans with recreation, water therapy and entertainment.

Step Out of the Darkness Luminary Event
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Brooks Memorial Fountain, 323 West Michigan Avenue, Marshall. The free World Suicide Prevention Day gathering includes resource booths, a one-mile walk, speakers and a luminary lighting.

10th Annual Substance Abuse Council Recovery Walk and Celebration
The event runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the walk beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Kellogg Arena, 1 McCamly Square, Battle Creek.

New Level Sports Rocket Football League
8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Carson Razor Vick Field in Battle Creek.

61st Annual Marshall Historic Home Tour
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday throughout Marshall. Tour notable homes and learn about the architecture and stories of the National Historic Landmark District. Tickets are $35 after Labor Day.

Art at the Museum

Puppy Plunge
1 to 2:45 p.m. at Flash Flood Water Park at Full Blast. Dogs get a turn in the water at this annual end-of-season community favorite.

Binder Park Zoo Member Appreciation Weekend
Saturday and Sunday at Binder Park Zoo. Zoo members receive special benefits including lunch, drinks, a ride, a giraffe feeding and a souvenir. Membership and admission rules apply.

Swingin' at the Shell Season Finale
6 p.m. at the Victory Park bandshell in Albion. Enjoy the final scheduled Sunday concert of the summer series.

Battle Creek Fall Cleanup and Scrap Tire Recycling
Fall Cleanup begins for city residents and continues through September 18 on regular trash days. A free scrap tire recycling event runs from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Dolliver Building, 135 North Avenue.
