Up to 14 Juveniles Could Face Charges in Gull Lake Camp Case
Calhoun County prosecutors may help coordinate potential juvenile cases

Up to 14 juveniles could face assault-related charges following a review of the investigation into alleged incidents at a Gull Lake High School football camp, according to the latest prosecutor update.
Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon said on October 28th, 2026, that his office had reviewed a Michigan State Police report totaling roughly 385 pages.
No charging decision had been announced.
Bizon said prosecutors still need to speak with potential victims before deciding whether cases should move forward.
Investigators have identified as many as six possible victims and 14 possible juvenile suspects, with some students potentially falling into both groups.
The prosecutor cautioned that accounts of what happened conflict and that each juvenile’s alleged role must be evaluated separately.
Authorities have not publicly identified the students because they are minors.
The allegations stem from a team camp held in Oceana County in late June.
According to the prosecutor’s description, older students allegedly struck younger students with an object during one incident, and another alleged incident in a cabin remains under review.
Bizon said the second allegation was not clearly a sexual assault based on the information available, but he did not completely rule out that legal interpretation.
No adults are accused in the incidents under review.
The location of the camp makes Oceana County the starting point for the case, while the home counties of the involved students may determine where any juvenile cases are ultimately handled.
A regional report on the charging review said prosecutors in Kalamazoo and Calhoun counties could become involved because students connected to the investigation live in those counties.
That multi-county question means the legal process may take time even after interviews are completed.
The latest development follows months of scrutiny surrounding the Gull Lake football program and an earlier Cereal City Buzz report on the season cancellation.
Michigan State Police opened the investigation in July, and the district later canceled its 2026 varsity season.
The district also previously confirmed that Title IX reviews were underway.
The prosecutor’s review does not mean the allegations have been proven.
The Michigan Courts overview of juvenile proceedings explains that a petition can lead to several outcomes, including diversion or formal court action.
People affected by a crime can also review the Calhoun County Crime Victims Unit for local support and rights information.
How many juveniles could face charges? The prosecutor said as many as 14 juveniles could be considered for charges, but no final charging decision had been announced on October 28th, 2026.
Why could Calhoun County prosecutors be involved? Officials said some students connected to the case live in Calhoun County, so venue and juvenile-case coordination may involve the county prosecutor.
What happens next in the Gull Lake camp investigation? Prosecutors plan to interview potential victims and then coordinate any charging decisions across the counties involved. |
