Battle Creek's Food Truck Finder Sparks Culinary Buzz—Are Your Favorites Rolling In?

The Cereal City Buzz Food Truck Finder is already demonstrating how valuable one reliable, easy-to-use local resource can be for Battle Creek residents and visitors.

The recent Backyard Burgers & Brews Fest brought approximately 40 food trucks and vendors to downtown Battle Creek. It was an impressive reminder of how much the local food truck community has grown, as well as how difficult it can sometimes be to keep track of every truck, menu and location.

That is exactly the problem the Food Truck Finder was created to solve.

The early success continued Tuesday, September 1, during the final Truckin’ Tuesday of the season at McCamly Park, across from the Kool Family Community Center.

Five food trucks participated, and every one of them could be found in the Food Truck Finder.

Tuesday’s lineup included:

  • Scott’s Sweets

  • Teresa’s Kitchen

  • Motor Mouth

  • Big Mike’s Smokehouse Barbecue

  • Kick N Kurbz

Instead of searching through multiple Facebook pages and posts, visitors could open one page and see which trucks were scheduled to be there.

It gave customers an easier way to plan lunch while providing the participating food trucks with another opportunity to be discovered.

I decided to try the loaded pork sandwich and fries from Kick N Kurbz, and it was an excellent choice.

The pork was tender and juicy, while the fries had a great seasoning that added plenty of flavor.

One of my favorite little touches was the way Kick N Kurbz shredded the pickles.

Rather than placing large pickle slices on top of the sandwich, the shredded pickles blended evenly with the pork, allowing a little of that flavor and crunch to come through in every bite.

It was a small detail, but one that made an already delicious sandwich even better.

The Food Truck Finder is also useful beyond festivals and organized events. Lone Star Lemonade can be found with its regular stationary location, helping customers know where to visit even when the business is not attending a special event.

Donnie’s Curbside Eats was also out serving customers Tuesday afternoon, providing another example of how the finder can help residents discover what is available throughout the day.

As more food truck owners activate and update their free pages, the Food Truck Finder will become an even stronger community resource.

The goal is to give people one dependable place to discover Battle Creek food trucks, check their locations and learn more about what they serve.

Food trucks are only the beginning.

Cereal City Buzz has been using the live Food Truck Finder to identify and correct the final details in a much larger local directory system.

Coming soon, new Hot Spots will help people find local bands, artisans and makers, open houses, nightly restaurant specials, happy hours and other activities happening throughout Battle Creek.

The completed platform will also include a full Battle Creek business directory featuring local businesses and professional service providers.

In the meantime, visit cerealcitybuzz.com/foodtruk and bookmark the page.

Check it whenever you are looking for a local food truck, and keep watching as more trucks, locations and community Hot Spots are added.
