Battle Creek's Riverside Golf Club Faces Potential Rezoning and Redevelopment
Battle Creek's historic Riverside Golf Club may be rezoned for mixed-use development, potentially ending its 99-year legacy.

The future of Battle Creek's Riverside Golf Club and Banquet Center, a community staple since 1926, hangs in the balance as city officials consider a rezoning proposal that could lead to its redevelopment.
On September 24, the Battle Creek Planning Commission is set to review an application from Interstate Capital Investments (ICI), a private equity firm specializing in industrial developments. ICI proposes transforming the 134-acre property at 245 E Columbia Avenue into a mixed-use area encompassing residential, commercial, and industrial zones.
During a recent community meeting, residents voiced concerns about the industrial component of the plan. One attendee expressed, "I am concerned about the word industrial," reflecting apprehension about potential impacts on property values and neighborhood character.
In response, ICI emphasized the importance of community feedback in shaping the project. Partner Todd Krajniak stated, "We wanted to better understand and avoid conflicts." Potential modifications include incorporating green spaces and pathways to maintain the area's aesthetic appeal.
If the Planning Commission recommends approval, the proposal will advance to the Battle Creek City Commission for further consideration, including a public hearing. The final decision rests with the City Commission, which will evaluate the proposal's alignment with community interests and urban planning objectives.
As the process unfolds, the fate of the nearly century-old Riverside Golf Club remains uncertain, with potential changes that could significantly reshape the local landscape. |
