One Last Shiver: Battle Creek Faces 29°F Frost This Weekend
Don't plant those annuals yet—arctic air brings a late-season chill before a 71-degree Monday surge.

Spring’s Stubborn Start: Frosty Nights Before a 71°F Surge
Battle Creek navigates a final arctic chill this week as overnight lows drop to 29°F before a much-needed warm-up arrive by Monday.
April is going out with a shiver.
While we’re all eager for consistent spring weather, the Cereal City is facing a split week, starting with a stubborn late-season chill and ending with a glimpse of the 70-degree warmth we’ve been waiting for.
The first half of our forecast is defined by a northwesterly flow that will keep things brisk.
Wednesday and Thursday will struggle to break 51°F, and you’ll want to keep the frost blankets handy; Friday and Saturday mornings will see temperatures plunge to a biting 29°F.
We might even see a few stray "April Fool's" flurries late Wednesday night into Friday morning, though no accumulation is expected.
The good news? The "big thaw" begins Sunday.
Winds will shift to the southwest, ushering in much milder air.
We’ll jump from the 50s on Saturday to a pleasant 66°F on Sunday, eventually peaking at a spectacular 71°F by Monday.
Keep the umbrella close for the start of the work week, as this warm-up brings the classic "May showers" a few days early.
It’s a week of two halves, survive the frost, and you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful, mild start to May!
Cereal City Weather Q&A
Q: With lows hitting 29°F on Friday and Saturday, is my early garden in danger? A: Yes, this is a "hard frost" territory. If you’ve already started cold-hardy crops like peas or kale, they should be fine, but any sensitive flowers or early tomatoes definitely need to be covered or brought inside for those two nights.
Q: Is the "light snow" on Friday actually going to stick? A: Not on the roads. While you might see some white stuff in the air or a light dusting on the mulch, the ground temperature is warm enough that it will melt on contact with pavement. No shoveling required!
Q: Monday’s high is 71°F—is that typical for early May in Battle Creek? A: It’s actually a few degrees above our seasonal average! Normally we’re in the mid-60s this time of year, so hitting 71°F will be a fantastic treat after the frosty weekend. |
