Local Spotlight: Authenticity and Warmth at Taqueria San Francisco

If you are looking for a way to beat the Michigan winter blues, I’ve found just the spot right here in Battle Creek.

Despite it being a brisk 10° outside, my family and I decided to take our first trip to Taqueria San Francisco on Capital Ave SW, and it was well worth the drive!

The Atmosphere & Service

The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a quaint, bright space and a beautiful mural that sets the perfect mood.

The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming.

They gave us menus to look over while we found a seat, and once we were ready, our order was prepared remarkably quickly.

The Main Course

  • Burrito San Marcos: I went with the San Marcos, and it was fantastic. It’s described as spicy, and while it brings a nice, authentic heat, it isn't overwhelming. I usually reach for extra sauce, but this was balanced so perfectly I didn't need any.

  • The Salsas: They provided three types—Verde, regular, and spicy. That spicy salsa is a winner on rice and beans, and the Verde is delicious with their chips.

  • Family Favorites: My wife gave a thumbs up to the Chimichanga, and our daughter really enjoyed the Quesadilla Fajita. We also shared some chips and queso that was wonderfully creamy.

A Cold Treat for a Cold Night

Even in the single digits, we couldn't resist the paleteria and neveria side of the house. We brought home a round of paletas (Mexican ice cream bars) for dessert:

  • Eggnog for me.

  • Chocolate for the wife.

  • Cookies and Cream for our daughter.

The Verdict: If you haven’t stopped by yet, I highly recommend giving them a visit.

They are a wonderful example of a local, family-owned business doing things the right way.
