Engage with local law enforcement through an immersive educational experience

The Battle Creek Police Department is set to launch its annual Citizens Police Academy in January 2026, offering residents a unique opportunity to gain firsthand insight into law enforcement operations.

This collaborative program, involving the Battle Creek Police Department, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, and the Michigan State Police, aims to educate business owners, community leaders, and engaged citizens about police procedures and community safety initiatives.

Participants will engage in interactive sessions covering various aspects of police work, including special units, tactics, use of force, and scenario training. The academy is designed to foster collaboration between law enforcement and the community, enhancing public safety and building trust.

Sessions will be held at the Battle Creek Police Department, located at 34 N. Division St., Battle Creek. The schedule is as follows:

– January 7: 5–9 p.m.

– January 10: 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

– January 14: 5–9 p.m.

– January 17: 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

– January 21: 5–9 p.m.

– January 24: 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Attendees are required to attend at least 80% of the sessions to complete the program. In case of class cancellations due to weather, makeup dates are set for January 28 and January 31.

Applicants must pass a background check to participate in the Citizens Police Academy. Space is limited to ensure a quality learning experience for all participants.
